 8/3/2018

TULSA, OKLA. – Cherokee Nation Assurance is providing scientific and research support services to the U.S. Army in an effort to protect warfighters and the public from infectious diseases and other biological agents.

CNA, a subsidiary of Cherokee Nation Businesses, has partnered with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases and is executing research at one of the military’s leading laboratories.

“It is an honor and a privilege to apply our experience, expertise and ingenuity to bettering the health and well-being of those who bravely serve our country,” said Steven Bilby, president of Cherokee Nation’s diversified businesses. “We are extremely proud of the important work CNA and USAMRIID are doing to safeguard both our troops and fellow citizens.”

The three-year contract allows CNA to provide a highly qualified staff of scientists, lab technicians and subject matter experts to execute the important work. A significant number of the staff have met the stringent requirements and evaluations of the Department of Defense’s Biological Personnel Reliability Program.

The tribally owned company could potentially earn $42.2 million throughout the three-year contract.

“Our team has developed a long-standing relationship with USAMRIID, and through that relationship and past performance, we have established a reputation for excellence in the field of scientific research and development,” said Richard Mylod, operations general manager for CNA. “We are honored to provide such vital support to the health of our service men and women and to public health in general.”

USAMRIID is one of the few federally operated research facilities in the United States with Biosafety Level 3 and Biosafety Level 4 containment laboratories. Biosafety Level 4 is the highest level of biocontainment for a laboratory and is required for the study of the most hazardous biological agents.
